Against a matte black barrier during the Nice Carnival, a fully armed police officer stands at ease while above him a carnival float figure in a blue suit, suitcase in hand, appears to be making its escape over the top of the wall. A child in a pink-trimmed jacket watches from the edge on the right, taking it all in with careful eyes. Zaïgouche has quietly assembled an allegory here: authority below, absurdity above, and innocence watching from the side, as contemporary a political image as any made in France in recent years. The blue sky above the carnival character seems to offer the only thing no officer can confiscate.
